Identified Challenges in the Program
lunar orbit
The main challenge this piece entails is the gratuitously added artificial notes. I've never encountered them in a piece before, and the ones in the piece do require a certain stretch. The second challenge is the string crossings. They are quite quick and require odd fingerings at times. I wouldn't say the pizzicato in this piece is a challenge, but I do have to be mindful of how i'm articulating it, least it sound sloppy.
- string crossings being concise
- artificial harmonics being clear
- double stops being balanced
widow
The main three challenges with widow is the double stops and the fast paced notes that are often tremolo-ed (if that's a word) or slurred.
- rapid tremolo
- lyric melodic lines requiring a controlled vibrato
- smart use of bow
flamenco
This piece may be the most challenging just for it's gratuitious use of double stops/chords. As well as that, the left hand is given extra work to do where it also plays pizzicato and two various places of the piece and the thumb position.
- clear in tune double stops
- accuracy when shifting to high positions
- stable left hand when pizzicato
song for sienna
This piece is slower, which means there has to be a lot more mindfulness to vibrato and intonation -especially with the quick position changes.
- smooth bow changes
- vibrato speed
- accurate position shifting
it's raining somewhere else
Honestly, it's challenges are the same as Song for Sienna...there is weird syncopation at times and it more often than not, doesn't start on the first beat, but I don't know how I could connect that to a excercise.
- smooth bow changes
- vibrato speed
- clear string crossings
