WEEK 5 TERM 1
I'm really just trying to work on all of my double stops and chords. Vessela was very kind to print some technical exercises from the grade 6 book that I find to be very helpful!! Intonation is really important here -even on chords that take all strings. Balance between strings is also important. I'm trying to work on what I've heard be described as an "ice cream scoop" of sorts where your hand goes in a sort of gradual circular motion instead of playing the specific angle needed for one string or another. Rosining the bow is also very important -this isn't practice but I find it more and more important as each string has different pressure tolerances (the same pressure that makes the c string sound full and rich makes the a string sound croaky) so insuring the bow is rosined helps the bow grip the string with not too much pressure :P
WEEK 6 TERM 1
I'm writing this on Monday and I'm not really sure what i want to work on. I only have to work on 3 for the blog so I suppose I'll choose Lunar Orbit, Flamenco, and Widow since I do perceive them as my most challenging pieces. I have been practicing this for this entire term yet it only occured to me today how much this piece moves in chromatic semitone steps...time to dust off my chromatic scales, I suppose. To add on to that, for a fast piece, I'm delightfully finding that there are more places to use vibrato than once perceived. I like this piece a lot...it's very angry.
